What is Soft Tissue Surgery?
Soft tissue surgery involves operating on muscles, tendons, and ligaments in veterinary procedures. This type of surgery is crucial for treating injuries, removing tumors, and alleviating pain in pets.
What happens during a consultation appointment?
During the pre-operative consultation, we carefully review the animal’s medical history, including their most recent physical examination. We arrange necessary blood work and other diagnostic tests, such as X-rays, CT scans, ultrasound, and biopsies, to assess the pet's condition thoroughly. Once we receive the test results, we develop a personalized surgery and recovery plan and discuss it with you and your client in detail. We always schedule ample time for you and the client to address any questions or concerns.
Does the consultation and surgery happen on the same day?
No. Before scheduling surgery, we rely on you to perform a pre-operative consultation appointment to ensure readiness for the procedure. Once we receive and review all diagnostic test results from the lab, we can then schedule the pet's surgery appointment. In the unlikely case that any new concerns are noted, we will perform an additional exam on the day of the surgery.
SOFT TISSUE SURGERIES COMMONLY PERFORMED:
Brachycephalic Airway Surgery
Brachycephalic breeds like Bulldogs and French Bulldogs often face challenges due to their unique facial structures, which include stenotic nares, everted laryngeal saccules sometimes, elongated soft palate.
This specialized procedure aims to alleviate respiratory distress by correcting anatomical abnormalities in the airways, allowing your pet to breathe more freely and comfortably. Soft palate abnormalities should be addressed if they cause distress to your pet, worsen over time, or pose a life-threatening obstruction. Symptoms such as gagging, coughing, exercise intolerance, or difficulty breathing may indicate the need for soft palate resection. This procedure is performed using precise techniques to remove excess tissue from the palate to promote improved airflow and comfort for your pet.
Additional Procedures May Include:
- Large Mass Removals
- Enucleation
- Cherry Eye Repair
- Various Abdominal Procedures
- Total Ear Canal Ablation and Bulla Osteotomy
